Locals is a documentary based in the Man of Kent pub in Nunhead. Described as “calming”, “touching”, and “funny”, the documentary features a series of conversations with the regular customers of the pub; meditating on their views on life, the pub, and the local area.

A study by think tank ‘Localis’ in 2020 states “Areas of deprivation that lack these community assets have higher levels of poverty, unemployment, and poor health than others, leading to them being ‘left behind’”, however, due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic, many pubs including the Man of Kent are at risk of closure.

The film aims to highlight the importance of the public house in modern society as a space for members of the community to gather, relax, reconnect, and discuss important issues.

‘Locals’ will be released on YouTube shortly.
