‘From The Ground Up’ was a series of workshops resulting in a publication and brick planter, made in, for, and by The Grove Community Garden in South London. The workshops and publication were made to teach local communities how to make bricks and structures from locally sourced clay using traditional tools and processes in opposition to top-down development and gentrification to facilitate a better understanding of local environments and a deeper connection with nature.

The Grove DIY ︎ is a DIY community space in East Dulwich on the grounds of an abandoned pub which was sent into disrepair after a fire in 2012, reimagined and rebuilt by locals into a skatepark and community garden.

The series of workshops included the activities finding clay, making bricks, decorating the bricks, firing the bricks, and bricklaying.
